County updates Strong Communities grant work on abandoned properties; five Dixon parcels approved

At the Public Safety Committee meeting, Jeremy reported progress on the county’s abandoned-properties work using the Strong Communities grant. He said five parcels in Dixon have been approved for grant reimbursements, Amboy has one approved parcel and may pursue a second, and the county has identified three additional locations in Lee County to use the funds if municipal applications do not expend the program limit.
Jeremy told the committee, “they have a limit of $75,000 of grant expenditures that they can work with through us for reimbursements.” He said the group continues interdepartmental coordination among health, zoning and building offices to improve notification processes and case handling.
Jeremy also said the building and zoning office has acquired new software that may be accessible to the health department so staff working on adjacent or similar properties can use the same system. The committee recorded the update; no formal vote or budget appropriation occurred at the meeting.
