County weighs options after CSAC project coordinator goes part time; cross-state grant administration unclear

County staff told the board on Sept. 16 that the contracted project coordinator for a federal drug grant administered through CSAC will not be available: Laura is going part time and returning to school, and CSAC will not be available to administer the grant. Staff said they contacted Robert Young (an Illinois-based organization) to ask whether it could administer the grant and act as project coordinator, but the decision-maker there had been out and had not yet responded.
Staff and supervisors discussed the practical challenges of administrating the grant from out of state, including the need for someone on the ground to make contacts and spend significant time locally. The board noted the grant term would be a maximum of three years and that the county would need a durable option for the grant's duration. County staff said that if Robert Young could not provide adequate local presence, the county might decline the grant; staff briefed the board on steps to decline the grant if necessary, saying the county could notify the grant office by email or via the Grants.gov/GrantSolutions portal.
The board directed staff to continue outreach to potential local coordinators and to report back when Robert Young or other options were clarified.
