Medina County to pursue Purdue Pharma settlement participation and negotiate new gas aggregation contract

The Board of Medina County Commissioners approved two administrator resolutions authorizing the county to participate in the 2025 direct settlement with Purdue Pharma and to allow the county administrator to negotiate a new gas-aggregation contract with Archer Energy.

County Administrator Matt Springer presented both items. On the Purdue settlement, the board authorized the county prosecutor’s office to file necessary paperwork for participation in the class-action settlement; commissioners recorded a unanimous roll-call vote approving the resolution. The transcript does not record the settlement amount allocated to Medina County or expected receipts.

On the gas-aggregation item, the board authorized the administrator to negotiate a contract with Archer Energy for the county’s gas aggregation supply. Commissioners discussed posting additional explanatory documents to the county website, including excerpts from a prior community presentation about energy advisers. Commissioner Hambley asked that townships and villages be notified of the gas-aggregation decision. County staff said they would proceed with a proactive communication rollout.

Both resolutions were approved by unanimous roll call; no further conditions or contract terms were recorded in the meeting minutes.
