Board OKs negotiations with PPG Furnishings for K–8 classroom furniture under bond savings

The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees on Sept. 15 authorized staff to negotiate an agreement with PPG Furnishings for furniture replacement in renovated K–8 classrooms, using bond savings to fund the purchase.
Miss Zamora, who presented the item, said the district solicited proposals from co-op vendors and that a five-member committee of district and campus leaders evaluated five bidders on design, durability, personnel experience, product quality and warranty. The proposals assumed 300 classrooms for price comparison; the final order will reflect the actual number of renovated classrooms now in use.
PPG Furnishings ranked first and the committee recommended entering negotiations because the company’s bid included an integrated dry‑erase table surface at no additional cost, a stronger warranty and closer local availability, which the committee said would speed replacements if needed. A competing vendor’s price was within about $1,600 of PPG’s across a nearly $2 million comparison, Zamora said.
Trustees voted 5–0 to authorize negotiation and possible agreement execution exceeding $50,000. No final contract amount was approved at the meeting; staff will return with negotiated terms and a purchase order for board review or execution per district procurement rules.
The district said bond savings will fund the furniture purchase and that installations will occur at renovated elementary and middle schools in the bond reconfiguration and realignment project.
