Rockingham County commissioners approved a proclamation recognizing National 4‑H Week after a presentation from local 4‑H members and a short speech by a 4‑H member. Straya Dillard, who identified herself as a member of the Explorers 4‑H Club and a student at Dillard Academy Homeschool, described 4‑H’s history and activities and asked the board to proclaim National 4‑H Week in Rockingham County. "For me, 4‑H means learning leadership skills, giving back to the community, and making friendships across the state," she said.
Commissioner Barrow moved to approve the proclamation and Commissioner Kellum seconded; the board approved the item by voice vote. After the vote commissioners invited the 4‑H members forward for a group photo. Officials noted that photos taken by county staff would be posted on the county website and social media.
Dillard told the board about local 4‑H activities, including a service project packing 20,270 food boxes and school-supply drives for children in foster care, and described having earned a first-aid and CPR certification through 4‑H. The board thanked the youth participants and highlighted the program’s role in youth leadership development.
