HSHS Saint Elizabeth announces nearly $100 million expansion; city administrator briefs council

City Administrator Walter Denton told the O'Fallon City Council on Sept. 15 that HSHS Saint Elizabeth's Hospital announced plans to expand, including a medical office building and surgical center already under construction, a near-doubling of the emergency department, relocation of cafeteria and food service to the ground floor, and roughly 32 additional inpatient beds on the fifth floor.
Denton said the expansion totals about $100,000,000 and that hospital officials expect completion in October 2026. He told council members he had circulated fact sheets from a press conference to council email addresses for additional details.
The council record does not include architectural plans, zoning changes, permit schedules or specific city approvals required for the hospital expansion. Denton framed the announcement as positive local economic and health-care news and noted the project was already moving forward with construction of the medical office and surgical center.
