Board sets $20,000 minimum for sale of surplus 72-passenger propane buses after debate

The East Stroudsburg Area School District board authorized the sale of surplus 72-passenger propane school buses with a minimum acceptable price of $20,000 during its Sept. 15 meeting.
Board members first voted to ratify several bus sales that had already occurred; that ratification passed with a recorded 7–1 result. The board then debated an appropriate floor price for the remaining fleet. Members discussed prior trade-in offers reportedly in the $17,000–$18,000 range and current resale values; one board member recommended trying a $20,000 asking floor and lowering it later if no bids met the threshold.
The motion to set $20,000 as the minimum passed. Administration said unsold buses would be reoffered and that the transportation department would return to the board with an update if bids did not meet the minimum. Board members noted the district already has purchased replacement buses and said the surplus vehicles are being removed to clear space and complete the fleet refresh.
The board did not authorize a higher guaranteed minimum at this meeting; members said they would reconsider pricing if the online auction produced no acceptable bids.
