Hoffman Estates lieutenant receives MABAS Humanitarian Service Award for Texas flood deployment

The village honored Lieutenant Kevin Arndt of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department on Sept. 15 with a MABAS (Mutual Aid Box Alarm System) Humanitarian Service Award for his work on Illinois Task Force 1 during flood response operations in Texas.
Glenn Erickson, chief (ret.) and chief executive officer of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System, told the board that members of Illinois Task Force 1 deployed after devastating July floods in Texas and that roughly 42 members volunteered for two‑week rotations. "It's very rare that we get a call for mutual aid from another state, but it seems it's happening more and more lately," Erickson said. "Our urban search and rescue team stood up to the call... they did a tremendous job down there."
Village leaders praised Arndt and his family for their service and sacrifice. The board presented a framed certificate recognizing Arndt's 15‑day deployment with Illinois Task Force 1 for flood response and relief efforts in Texas in July 2025. Chief Kevin (Fire Department chief present for the recognition) and village officials noted the deployment included search and rescue operations, recovery missions and setting up communications support, and they thanked Arndt's family for supporting him while he was deployed.
Action taken: the Village Board presented a certificate of recognition and a MABAS Humanitarian Service Award to Lieutenant Kevin Arndt. No formal policy or funding action accompanied the recognition.
The presentation also included remarks about the growing frequency of out‑of‑state mutual aid requests and the role of communities like Hoffman Estates in supporting statewide and national search and rescue deployments.
