Residents ask council to invite Travis Mills Foundation to present; city staff say outreach continuing

Several residents asked the council to invite the Travis Mills Foundation — a Maine-based organization providing support and retreats for veterans — to present to the council or community. Barb Roth, a longtime McHenry resident, said she met Jim Schubert, chairman of the foundation’s board, and asked whether the foundation had contacted the city. She later said she would “reach out again this week.”
Bridey (pronounced "Bridey") Silver and other residents described the foundation as a “retreat” with a successful program in Maine and suggested it could bring jobs and services for veterans to McHenry. The mayor and staff said previously the foundation had contacted local residents but the city had not received a coordinated presentation request; staff said they would follow up. Resident Alvin Glenn asked the city to keep the public updated if and when the foundation wants to present.
No formal agenda item or council motion addressed the Travis Mills Foundation at the Sept. 15 meeting; the matter was raised during the public-comment period and staff said they would attempt additional outreach to the foundation and report back if a formal presentation were scheduled.
