Belton ISD reports Delta facility opening issues and ongoing bond-project reconciliations

The Belton Independent School District facilities committee told trustees Monday that the newly opened Delta facility is operating under a temporary certificate of occupancy while the district completes work on the kitchen and addresses a sewage issue discovered after opening. Trustee committee members said the temporary occupancy is valid for 30 days and that the district may seek another temporary certificate from the city if additional time is needed before final certification. Committee members also discussed real property under consideration and outlined the district's process for closing large construction projects. The committee explained the district uses an outside auditing process at project closeout to reconcile contractor billings, change orders and actual material and labor records. That reconciliation can extend the closeout timetable but helps the district confirm final costs; the committee said this audit and reconciliation process is expected to be complete in about 30 days. Trustees were told the issues at Delta are typical for launching a large facility and that staff continue to work with contractors and city officials to complete final items.
