Yorktown reports 695 LED fixtures installed under NYSEG program; order/install deadlines cited

At the Sept. 15 meeting Dr. Hatter reported the district has replaced 695 light fixtures with LED fixtures through a NYSEG program and said the fixtures were provided at no cost to the district. He said the district has in-house capacity to install fixtures but may contract support to meet an ambitious goal of replacing about 600 additional fixtures by the end of the calendar year, bringing the total to roughly 1,200.
A board member asked why the project had a Dec. 31 deadline. A NYSEG-related representative (speaking on the NYSEG program timelines) explained the utility—s program required that fixtures be ordered by Oct. 31 and installed by Dec. 31 to reduce grid demand; most fixtures are free and some specialty fixtures cost $5 each, the representative said.
Why this matters: the LED replacement reduces energy consumption and utility demand and has near-term procurement and installation deadlines set by the utility incentive program. The superintendent said the district expects the corridor fixtures in nearly all buildings to be replaced if the remaining fixtures are installed.
Discussion vs. decisions: this was a progress update and explanation of program deadlines and costs; the board did not vote on contracting at the Sept. 15 meeting but Dr. Hatter said the district may contract for support to meet the installation timeline.
