Board reviews revisions to harassment and bullying policies; committee will refine guidelines before Oct. 27 second read

Richfield School Board members reviewed second‑read drafts of Policy 101 (harassment prohibition) and an accompanying administrative guideline (103.2) Sept. 15 and directed staff to continue refining the documents with the Safe and Supportive Schools Committee before the items return for formal consideration on Oct. 27.

District staff said the policy text includes minor edits to align with statutory language on protected classifications and that the guidelines have been substantially revised to add an online reporting form mirroring the paper reporting form, and clearer descriptions of steps the district and families may take when incidents are reported. Staff said they collaborated with student support services and community reviewers while drafting the updates.

Directors discussed where resource information (for parents and students seeking supports) should live. One director suggested consolidating resource lists into parent and student handbooks rather than embedding extensive resource lists inside administrative guidelines so families can find assistance in a single, familiar location. Staff agreed to check and, if needed, update student handbooks alongside policy changes so public-facing guidance is consistent across documents.

The board was reminded the Safe and Supportive Schools Committee will review the drafts and that the policy/guideline pair will return to the board after committee input; staff offered to publish the committee schedule and accept board feedback before Oct. 27.
