The Burke County Board of Education voted to approve the district’s July financial report during its Aug. 19 meeting.
The finance director reported that July marked the first month of the new fiscal year and the year was 8.33% complete; total revenues were $1,678,937. As of July 31, 2025, total expenditures were $5,651,809, representing 6.87% of the general fund budget, the report said.
The report showed a general fund equity balance of $290,814,063 and total investments of $282,320,214.83 as of July 31, 2025. The director noted purchase order encumbrances were elevated compared with the prior month because the year had just begun and vendors had started processing purchases.
Board action: A motion to approve the financial report was made and seconded; the board voted by show of hands and approved the report with no recorded dissent.
Why it matters: The July report frames early fiscal-year position, cash and encumbrance levels that affect purchasing, staffing and program decisions. The finance director said current expenditure percentages were roughly in line with the 8.33% of the year completed.
Next steps: The finance director invited board members to raise questions; none were presented that halted approval. The board will receive routine monthly financial reports and vendor activity statements going forward.
