City staff outlines progress on Delray Beach climate action plan; crosswalk with comprehensive plan completed

Interim Sustainability and Resiliency Officer Chris Jettister briefed the commission Sept. 15 on work to finalize Delray Beach’s Climate Action Plan. Jettister said the current effort moves the document from a draft list of ideas toward an implementable plan with departmental buy-in.
Highlights staff provided: Jettister said a crosswalk document that maps climate strategies to the city’s comprehensive plan has been completed and identifies 584 policy-level points of alignment. Since his onboarding staff facilitated nine 90-minute workshops with department directors and staff from public works, development services, parks and recreation, utilities, and neighborhood services to align strategies, identify challenges and build consensus for implementation. A SharePoint site was created to host drafts, notes and tools for internal stakeholders.
Next steps: Staff plans to reorganize the climate strategies into the comprehensive plan format (sections, goals, objectives, policies), and to align the mitigation plan with the city’s adaptation/resilience work, bringing mitigation and resilience strategies together. Jettister told commissioners the adaptation work of Public Works provides a foundation for addressing sea-level rise and flooding. The commission asked for the completed plan and crosswalk to be provided to the commission when ready.
