Red Oak ISD board appoints members to school library advisory committee under Senate Bill 13

Laura Kelly told the board that the district is implementing a school library advisory council established earlier by the board pursuant to Senate Bill 13 and that each board member gets to appoint one member to the council. "This council will just review any library purchases, procurement to our library collection, and, they'll review it and come up with processes and procedures to make recommendations for those purchases," Kelly said.
Kelly said the council will meet a minimum of two times per year but can meet more often, and that librarians have historically purchased books each semester in accordance with local board policy. She said the council will begin meeting this semester to set dates and procedures.
The board approved a motion to formally appoint the listed members to the council in accordance with board policy EFB local adopted 07/29/2025. The motion was made by Board member Knight, seconded by Board member Sebring, and passed by unanimous voice vote, "Motion passes 7 0."
Less critical details: Kelly said the council is composed of parents from the community who will review titles and, if questions arise, coordinate with campus librarians.
