The Village of Addison on Sept. 15 adopted an ordinance to install all-way stop controls at several residential intersections to address vehicle and pedestrian safety concerns. The ordinance covers specified corners at Byron Avenue and Green Ridge Street, Plimpton (Clomonton/Plomondon in transcript) Drive and Amelia Lane, Plimondon Drive and Woodland Avenue, and West Stone Avenue at DuPage Avenue.
Public-works and engineering staff told trustees they had received complaints about missing stop signs and observed drivers and pedestrians failing to yield, sometimes leading to multiple vehicles entering intersections at once. Staff recommended converting the listed intersections to all-way stops to clarify right-of-way and reduce conflict. The ordinance was prepared by village counsel and reviewed by staff.
During committee discussion trustees asked whether advance warning signs would be installed; staff said locations have been marked for installation and that they would consider pre-warning signage even though that is not typically done for every new stop sign. The committee recommended waiver of second reading because of the public-safety concern, and the village board adopted the ordinance after a unanimous roll-call vote.
