Superintendent presents board goals, proposes school visits and district champion award

Superintendent Dr. Samantha Wilcox presented the school board’s goals for the 2025–26 year and outlined action plans tied to each goal. She described the plans as working documents that can be adjusted and asked the board for questions and suggested changes before formal approval later on the agenda. Wilcox proposed a minimum expectation that each board member visit schools twice during the 2025–26 school year, write a short personal note to staff or students after visits, and use visits as a storytelling point for the district. She said the number of visits could be increased beyond that minimum. Wilcox also reviewed a district champion award, described in her superintendent’s materials, that may be used to recognize community members, staff or volunteers who embody the district mission. She said the first district champion awards will be presented at the October board meeting and board members may present them personally. Board members heard the presentation and were asked to consider the action plans ahead of a requested approval later in the meeting. The agenda note indicates the item remains a working document and that final approval will come at a subsequent vote.
