Board approves routine consent items and several purchases, including Chromebook repair contract

The Midland Public Schools Board of Education approved a set of routine consent items and several procurement actions at its Sept. 8 meeting, including a three-year renewal for Chromebook repair services, a video scoreboard purchase split with the Dow High Sports Boosters, and a commercial mower purchase for district grounds. The consent agenda (items 2.1through 2.5) including minutes, personnel recommendations, resignations, payment of bills and legal payments was approved on a motion by Vice President Scott McFarland, supported by Member Horowitz. The administration recommended renewing a service agreement with Stratix Corporation for Chromebook repair and return services at a total contract amount of $824,461.44 for a three-year term; the board approved the renewal. "This renewal will ensure the continued reliability and functionality of our devices and minimize student downtime," Anna (district finance staff) said. The board also approved a purchase order to Daktronics for a video scoreboard for HH Dow High School for $134,928; the cost will be split 50/50 with the Dow High Sports Boosters and the district share will use operating funds. Administration recommended purchase of an Exmark mower from Hoffman's Power Equipment for $68,528 to replace older equipment; the board approved the purchase. The board accepted philanthropic gifts requiring board approval: $8,000 from the Farm Bureau Community Grant to equip student resource closets at secondary schools and $27,500 combined donations from the Arthur C. Frock Endowment Fund ($20,000) and an athletics donation ($7,500) earmarked for Midland High; the board voted to accept those donations. Several smaller donations totaling $4,855 were reported for information. All motions passed by voice or roll-call votes as noted on the agenda.
