New Canaan — The New Canaan Inland Wetlands Commission scheduled a site visit for Oct. 15 at 7:30 a.m. to review an application to replace an existing 12‑inch corrugated metal pipe (CMP) driveway culvert and related drainage work at 4170 Hillcross Road.
Chair Angela Jameson opened the application item during the Sept. 15 regular meeting and described the proposal: the trustees Jeffrey and Shelley Ecklestein seek to replace the 12‑inch CMP driveway culvert, replace footing-drain and leader pipes and perform related landscaping. The application is referenced by the commission as IW‑25‑4170 and, if found complete, will be scheduled for a public hearing or the commission’s Oct. 20 meeting as appropriate.
Commissioners agreed to conduct a site visit before the next regular meeting to inspect the existing culvert and adjacent wetland buffer. Several commissioners said they would attend; town staff agreed to send a calendar invitation and a reminder before the visit. Town staff said the application filing will be processed and, if complete, will appear on the Oct. 20 agenda.
Why it matters: culvert replacements and related drainage work can affect nearby wetlands and watercourses; a site visit allows commissioners to observe existing conditions before the commission makes a completeness determination or opens a hearing. The commission did not make a final permit determination at the Sept. 15 meeting; it scheduled the visit as part of its review process.
