The Anthony Wayne Board of Education received a calendar committee report and several facilities updates during Tuesday’s meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Freffley said the calendar committee — made up of building representatives and union leadership — began meeting Aug. 29 to craft the 2026–27 school year calendar. The committee presented two options; one option had the district staff association (AWEA) vote about 80% in favor. Dr. Freffley said both calendar options would end the 2026–27 school year before Memorial Day and that the semester break and start/end dates were major drivers of the committee’s work.
Trustees were also briefed on facility projects. Administrators reported the building lighting project is finished and improved visibility in the boardroom. The Minklova roof replacement is complete, and the district said the track resurfacing project — which had missed an August target — is nearing completion with a commitment that soccer games scheduled for Sept. 23 will be played on the updated field.
The board approved routine overnight travel for the DECA students and the marching band’s trip to Lake Orion, Mich., and approved supplemental curricular materials and an early‑graduation request as part of the consent agenda.
Board members thanked operations staff and volunteers for completing capital projects funded by permanent improvement dollars.
