The Saint Paul Park City Council adopted Resolution 17-54 on Sept. 15 to renew a joint powers agreement with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). Hugo, a police department staff member, told the council the agreement costs $600 a year and gives officers access to BCA databases used for criminal-history checks during traffic stops and investigations. Hugo described the agreement as routine and said the city’s existing agreement was expiring and would be renewed to take effect in January. A motion to adopt the resolution carried 5-0. Why it matters: the agreement provides technical and data access police need for investigations and routine checks; the council approved the renewal as a standard operational expense.
