On Sept. 15 the superintendent reported Unit 40’s current enrollment at 2,321 students and said that figure represents an increase of eight students compared with the same reporting point last year. He said the district is working with the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to clarify when official counts are pulled for athletics and state reporting.
Staff explained the district produces a 10-day enrollment report, followed by additional counts in October and March, and that families frequently move during the year, producing enrollment fluctuation. The superintendent said the district’s non–English-speaking student population has increased, and additional staff may be needed if trends continue. He said more precise updates are expected once the state provides clarification on reporting timelines.
