The speaker said crown‑of‑road references lead to inconsistent maximum fill allowances across short distances on islands: "on the crown of the road, center of the island is about 3 feet... down the end of the road... they were only 1 and 1 foot, 6 inches above... they'd only be able to go up 2 feet 10 inches." The member urged a strategic, multidisciplinary review with public‑services and consultant engineers, arguing that current advice to homeowners may be creating poor resilience outcomes. Staff said they have not yet met with state officials (Florida Division of Emergency Management) on the issue and will seek an update at the next meeting; staff also said they would raise the possibility of a workshop with management and public‑services departments.
