City schedules community forum on Town Center / Quarry area and releases historic survey

Staff announced a community forum Oct. 9 on redevelopment options for Town Center and Coquina West (including the Quarry area) and said a recently completed Quarry Area historic survey will be presented to the public.
Planning staff told the Planning Board that the city is undertaking a findings‑of‑necessity study that could underlie a Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) and that staff will hold a public forum to gather property‑owner and resident input. Brandon, planning staff, said the forum is set for Oct. 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the City Commission chamber at City Hall; staff will mail notices to property owners and post on social media.
The presentation will cover redevelopment challenges, preferences for redevelopment, and a recently finalized Quarry Area historic survey. Staff said the Quarry Circle/Quarry Landings property accounts for much of the east side of the Town Center 2 land‑use district and that significant storm damage and numerous nonconforming single‑family uses complicate redevelopment options. Brandon noted the city is continuing outreach to hear from property owners before making policy recommendations.
Why this matters: if a CRA is pursued it could reshape allowable uses, incentives and redevelopment strategy in the Town Center/Quarry area. Staff emphasized the forum is for information and community input; no zoning changes were adopted in the Planning Board meeting.
