Council committee confirms two appointments to Akron Commission on Aging

The Health and Social Services Committee approved a resolution confirming two appointments to the City of Akron Commission on Aging and voted to suspend the rules so the appointees could attend a future committee meeting.

Acting committee members presented the resolution nominating Mary Dee and Abigail Morgan to the Commission on Aging and described both as having prior work on aging-related issues. Speakers noted Mary Dee’s work with A.S.I.A. Inc. and Abigail Morgan’s experience with Direction Home and the Akron Area Agency on Aging.

A member of the public, Miss Connor, spoke in favor of Abigail Morgan, saying she had worked with Morgan on an independent living board and that Morgan was “an amazing asset.” The committee then moved to suspend the rules so the appointees could join before the next scheduled committee meeting; the suspension motion passed on a roll-call vote recorded in the transcript as 4 to 0.

The resolution was read into the record and the committee recorded its favorable votes; no further discussion was recorded. The appointments will be sent to the full council for confirmation as required by the city’s procedures.
