Committee clarifies extracurricular policy language to cover off-campus student conduct at school events

At its Sept. 15 meeting the Policy Review Committee reviewed revisions to Policy 122, Extracurricular Activities, clarifying that student conduct occurring off school property or during non-school hours will be addressed under the student-discipline policy when it relates to district-sponsored events. Committee Chair explained the proposed language: "Student conduct that occurs off school property or during non school hours shall be addressed in accordance with the provisions of the student discipline policy regarding on and off campus activities." Committee members asked whether that language would apply to events such as prom or off-site gatherings; the chair and other members confirmed students remain accountable when participating in district-sponsored activities.
