Council approves purchase order for three police patrol vehicles

The Anacortes City Council authorized a purchase order on Sept. 15 for three police patrol Chevrolet Tahoes at a total cost of $274,244.84.
Fleet manager Jason Luteman told the council that the vehicles had been ordered previously, then cancelled when staffing levels did not require them; the department now needs the three vehicles to accommodate five additional officers. ‘‘We have a very small window each year to order police vehicles. If we don't get these ordered the next couple of weeks, we had to wait until this time next year,’’ Luteman said.
Councilmember T.J. Fantini moved to authorize the mayor to sign Purchase Order 25235ERR001 with Bud Clary Chevrolet in the amount of $274,244.84. The motion carried unanimously. City clerk Fransiak called the roll: all voting members present voted yes.
The vehicles will arrive fully equipped and will receive department decals after delivery, staff said. No supplemental appropriation was reported in the meeting minutes; staff indicated procurement fits existing fleet and budget planning.
