Council appoints lodging tax advisory committee members for 2025

Councilmember Mark Walters, chair of the lodging tax effort, reminded the council that state statute and city code require equal representation among lodging-tax collectors and entities eligible to receive lodging-tax awards. Walters said the city had difficulty filling hotelier seats and that a resignation earlier in the year (Marc Leone) opened a vacancy; a new hotelier candidate listed in the meeting packet completed the roster.
Councilmember T.J. Fantini moved to adopt Resolution 3187, and the motion carried unanimously. The clerk recorded the vote: Walters, Cleland McGrath, Moulton, McDougall, Hubick, Fantini and others voting yes.
What happened next: With the committee reconstituted, staff said LTAC will review grant applications already submitted and begin work on award recommendations for council consideration. No supplemental budget action was taken at the Sept. 15 meeting.
Why it matters: Lodging-tax advisory committees review grants funded from lodging (hotel/motel) tax revenue; appointments ensure the city can process awards in compliance with state and local rules.
