PORT HUENEME, Calif. — Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) notified the City Council in a written submission that a multi‑service test event called “gray flag” will take place at NBVC Point Mugu from Sept. 5 through Sept. 19 and that residents in Camarillo and Oxnard may notice increased aircraft activity and noise during the event’s peak periods.
The NBVC submission said participating units include multi‑service aircraft, surface vessels and unmanned systems, and that some test events will require extended airfield hours. The message also corrected an earlier communication, stating that the event will end on Sept. 19 (not Sept. 21) and provided media and community affairs contact emails for NBVC public affairs and the community planning liaison officer.
What the city will do The city clerk read the written notice into the record; the city will share the NBVC contact information with the public and direct inquiries to the provided NBVC public affairs addresses. No council action was requested or taken; the item was informational.
Context NBVC is composed of operating facilities at Point Mugu, Port Hueneme and San Nicolas Island and hosts test events that sometimes affect noise and activity patterns in adjacent communities. The city received the notice as a written public comment to the council meeting.
