SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — The Southborough Public Library will close early on Oct. 6 to host a two‑hour active‑shooter and violent‑incident response training run by the police department, trustees agreed Sept. 15. Library staff proposed two potential dates; trustees approved Oct. 6 so staff would have more time to publicize the early closure. The library will be open 10 a.m.–2 p.m. that day and closed from 2–5 p.m.; the police training is scheduled 3–5 p.m. The director offered to provide lunch for staff and volunteers and asked trustees and Friends members to attend if available. Staff noted some part‑time and evening workers will not be able to attend; trustees accepted that and asked the director to schedule a follow‑up session in the spring for those who could not attend. No formal vote was required; trustees indicated general agreement and the director was authorized to finalize the logistics with the police department.
