The Haslet City Council on Sept. 15 adopted an ordinance authorizing the city to hire crossing guards and then approved a contract with All City Management Services, Inc. (doing business as Crossing Guard Company) to provide five crossing-guard positions at city-defined school crossing locations.
The approved contract covers five crossing-guard locations in LaTerra and Ashmore Farms and near John Day Road/middle-school approaches. The vendor will provide recruiting, training, supervision and scheduling; the firm already provides similar services to Fort Worth-area school districts, including Northwest ISD, the citystaff said. The initial annual contract amount quoted in the packet is $78,273; staff noted actual costs may vary with hours and school schedules.
The council approved an ordinance to make it a municipal violation to fail to comply with a crossing guard's lawful directions and then authorized the mayor to execute the services agreement. Council and staff said the contract is renewable annually and will be timed to align with school start dates. Crossing guards are contracted personnel and will not issue citations, though drivers who fail to obey crossing guard directions can be issued citations by authorized officers.
