OKCPS board upholds superintendent's student transfer denials after executive session

The Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education voted to uphold the superintendent’s decisions to deny certain student transfer requests after discussing the appeals in executive session Sept. 15.
Board Member Dana Meister moved to uphold the superintendent’s denials, saying the board determined state law and board policies were followed by the administration in denying the transfers. The motion passed with six aye votes and no nays.
Before the vote, the board returned from an executive session that, according to the public readback, included discussion of transfer denial appeals, the appraisal of real property, and the evaluation of the superintendent. The public readback also noted that no actions were taken during executive session.
The motion to uphold the superintendent’s denials was recorded as carried 6–0; the transcript lists the members voting yes as Paula Lewis, Lori Bowman, Jessica Cifuentes, Dana Meister, Juan Lecona and Meg McElhaney.
