Commissioners approve $3,300 tree trimming at courthouse after bird-roosting complaints

Decatur County commissioners on Sept. 15 approved a $3,300 bid from Adams Tree Service to trim five maple trees and one Bradford pear tree on the courthouse square and to remove a small, dying tree on the west side of the square.
County staff said birds had been roosting in the trees, leaving droppings that covered sidewalks and entrances to the courthouse; staff requested expedited work before the county fall festival so vendors would not encounter the mess. Adams Tree Service was the only firm able to perform the work in the requested timeframe, staff said.
The county also arranged for the local fire department to spray sidewalks after the trimming; staff said prior spraying had been temporary and the recent trimming and cleanup will be needed to address recurring problems. Commissioners approved the work by voice vote.
