Pitt County commissioners on Sept. 15 appointed Josephine Williams to the District 1 seat on the newly formed Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Council and named Dr. Anne Eldridge to fill the veterinarian seat on the Pitt County Board of Health. County manager Samantha Gallagher presented the Cultural Arts council vacancy and recommended Josephine Williams based on the application submitted during an open recruitment period. A commissioner nominated Williams and the board voted to approve the appointment. For the Board of Health, Gallagher explained a veterinarian seat became vacant after a previous member changed county residence; Dr. Anne Eldridge indicated willingness to serve and the board nominated and approved her to the veterinarian seat. Why it matters: these appointments fill advisory and regulatory positions that advise county policy on culture, recreation and public health matters. The Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Council is a newly constructed nine‑member board; the Board of Health veterinarian seat provides subject‑matter expertise for public‑health deliberations. Next steps: appointees will serve according to the boards’ terms and be notified by the Clerk’s Office about orientation and meeting schedules.
