Board approves sewer easement to support nearby commercial connection at Brawley School

The board approved an easement Sept. 15 that will allow a neighboring commercial applicant to connect its sewer service to the district line near Brawley School. District staff told trustees the applicant will contribute $7,500 to the district, reimburse up to $1,500 in attorney fees, and perform the work under conditions designed to avoid disruption to school operations.
Facilities staff explained there are two construction alignment options under review; the board approved the general easement authorization and gave staff authority to finalize the option that best minimizes disruption to car‑rider lines and school operations. The county will transfer the underlying property to the district before the easement is finalized, staff later confirmed.
Board members asked for coordination to ensure work occurs on non‑instructional days or other times that will not interfere with car‑rider lines and daily pick‑up/drop‑off. The motion to approve the easement with latitude to finalize the design passed 7‑0.
Board counsel noted the deed references an exhibit drawing and that staff will complete final engineering and exhibit designation during implementation. Staff will also require the applicant to restore work areas and coordinate with the school on scheduling construction during times when student traffic is minimal.
