Pitt County appoints Gary Weaver to fill vacant commissioner seat

The Pitt County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 15 appointed Gary Weaver to a vacant county commissioner seat and administered his oath of office. The board voted after a nominating and voting process conducted in public session. Gary Weaver was sworn in and took his seat immediately. The appointment fills the vacancy created by Commissioner Lauren White’s departure. County staff announced that the county Republican Party had recommended a different candidate, but the board proceeded with nominations and a vote during the meeting.
