Board cancels Nov. 4 election after three qualified candidates file; candidates declared elected by acclamation

The School District No. Re-3 Fort Morgan Board of Education voted to cancel the regular school election scheduled for Nov. 4, 2025 after determining only three candidates properly qualified to fill three open seats. The board adopted a resolution that declared the candidates elected by acclamation and authorized district staff to notify the county clerk and recorder and publish required notices.

The board read the resolution aloud, which stated that "the only matter before the electors of the regular ... election on 11/04/2025 is the election of 3 persons to fill 3 offices" and that three individuals "have nomination petitions with sufficient signatures to qualify." The resolution referenced state law as the authority for canceling the election and declared Amy Brampton, Katie Jess and Christie Chisholm elected by acclamation. The resolution named Bev Morford as the designated election official and authorized her to take "all the necessary and appropriate steps to cancel the election, including providing the list of the cancellation by publication and by posting notice at each polling location and in the office of the county clerk and recorder." It also directed the designated official to provide certificates of election and administer the oath of office within 10 days if required.

Vote details: the board approved the resolution by roll call with recorded "aye" votes from Chris Brown, Amy Grantham, Nancy Hopper, Katie Jess, John Crowley, Mindy Smith and Sarah Whitney.

The action does not change any other board composition rules; it cancels the election because there were no more candidates than offices to be filled. The board instructed the designated election official to notify the named candidates and the county clerk and recorder and to handle any prorating of election expenses.
