Council to advance ordinance matching King County wastewater charge for 2026; additional charge for high-use customers proposed

The Renton City Council on Sept. 16 moved to advance an ordinance that would set the city's 2026 King County wastewater treatment pass-through rate to match King County's adopted 2026 rate of $62.66. The utilities committee recommended concurrence in staff's proposal and asked that the ordinance be presented for second reading.
The committee recommendation also includes an additional charge of $8.35 for every 100 cubic feet over 750 cubic feet of water used by multifamily, commercial and industrial customers, effective Jan. 1, 2026. A committee speaker emphasized the charge is a King County pass-through and that the city does not retain any portion of the rate.
Council member Vance moved to concur with the utilities committee report; Council member Rivera seconded the motion. The council voted to place Ordinance No. 6166 in second and final reading at the next council meeting.
