At its Sept. 15 meeting, the San Felipe del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees adopted an ordinance setting the maintenance and operations tax rate at 0.7486 and the interest and sinking tax rate at 0.1877 for a combined 0.9363 per $100 of taxable value. The vote to adopt the rate carried unanimously.
The action follows a statutory certification of the appraisal role from the Val Verde County Appraisal District and state-required calculations. District staff presented the "no new revenue" tax rate of 0.817991 and a voter-approval tax rate of 0.9363, and explained that state law requires the board to state the effective increase compared with the no-new-revenue rate; that comparison produced the 14.46% figure cited during the meeting.
Administrators emphasized that the required statutory wording compares the adopted rate to the no-new-revenue benchmark rather than to last year's actual rate. The board's motion to adopt the ordinance passed by voice vote with no recorded dissents.
The district will publish the adopted rate and continue the statutorily required public notices for the tax year.
