Dr. Bill Griffin, Alexander County Schools superintendent, presented the district’s new three-year strategic plan and introduced a revised mission and vision during the board meeting, saying the new mission is “building a legacy of excellence” and the vision is “to be the educational choice for every child.” Griffin said staff, students, parents and community members participated in development of the plan and the brand elements.
Griffin described four pillars in the new strategic plan—instructional excellence, comprehensive support, operational effectiveness, and time and professional growth—and said the plan aligns with the state superintendent’s strategic framework. He told the board the district will not let the plan “sit on a shelf” and emphasized that leaders must implement the plan in daily work.
As part of a rebranding effort, Griffin showed a district emblem built around the letter “A” with an arrow motif and a gold star. He said the arrow symbolizes upward movement and continuous improvement. Griffin credited cabinet members and staff, including a named contributor in his office, for developing the emblem and showed a short video the district produced to introduce the plan and brand.
Board members and Griffin said the new branding is being placed in the boardroom and will be used to promote district priorities. Griffin asked the board and community to view the branding and strategic plan as operating tools that guide decisions and daily work.
No formal board action to adopt the strategic plan or branding was recorded in open session at the meeting; Griffin presented it as part of his superintendent’s report and described upcoming communications and implementation work.
