Alief ISD’s staff climate and culture report showed a higher participation rate and slight gains on key measures, while trustees pressed administration for more detail about employee departures.
Tingling Shaw, director of compensation and records, reported that the staff CARE survey (Climate and Culture Assessment for Responsive Engagement) reached a 70% response rate in March 2025, representing 4,550 completed surveys out of 6,450 staff invited. The district’s overall favorability score rose from 67% in October to 69% in March. The employee net promoter score (eNPS) improved to 11 in March from 6 in October.
On retention, staff reported a districtwide retention rate of 85.56% for the 2024–25 year and an overall teacher/associate teacher retention rate of 84.54; certified teacher retention was 88.1%. District data showed 1,175 separations during the reporting period; the most common exit reason listed on resignation records was “personal reasons” (573 entries). Staff noted only 122 employees completed the separate exit survey, and administrators said location and commute were prominent reasons among those who responded.
Trustees asked for more detailed exit information and suggested refining resignation/exit forms to capture deeper reasons for separation. District leaders said they will continue focus groups and review the resignation form choices to obtain more actionable data; they will also monitor progress on campus- and department-level culture goals submitted for the 2025–26 year.
