Weld County commissioners on Monday approved two temporary closures of segments of County Road 51 to accommodate a bridge superstructure replacement and full road construction tied to a new industrial development.
Amy Munchie of Public Works presented the first request: a closure of County Road 51 between State Highway 392 and County Road 70 to begin Oct. 2 and run through Dec. 31 for a bridge superstructure replacement that will install new girders, a new deck, guardrail and related work. Staff said message boards will be placed in advance and that one gravel section will be managed for dust control; the remainder of the detour is paved.
Kimi Muchi (Public Works), presenting on behalf of a contractor and a Metro district in the Town of Hudson, asked to close County Road 51 between State Highway 52 and Interstate 76 from Sept. 22 through Dec. 31 for full road construction and paving associated with a new industrial development. Staff said the detour route is paved, local access to residences will be maintained, the contractor notified nearby residents and the work will not affect school bus routes.
Commissioners moved and approved both closure resolutions by voice vote. In both cases the board required that message boards and advance notifications be used and that local access be preserved during construction. No vote counts beyond voice approval were recorded.
