The Holt County Board of Supervisors authorized payment of claims for several county funds and approved surety bonds for named officials at its Sept. 16 meeting.
The board allowed General Fund claims totaling $214,703.87 and Road Fund claims totaling $767,299.17. Major line items recorded in the minutes include a Road Fund invoice to Jebro for $411,307.72 and several large material and contractor charges such as Elkhorn Sand & Gravel ($71,617.83) and Emme Sand & Gravel ($44,852.66). The General Fund list includes Meritain Health insurance for $125,000.00. The board also approved a Construction Asphalt Claim Fund payment of $105,107.13 to John Prouty Construction and other smaller fund claims: Visitor’s Promotion $5,565.39; Rod-Modernization & Preservation $350.98; Drug Court Problem Solving $42.98; and Jail Commissary $1,500.00.
In related business, the board approved surety bonds on file for Victoria L. Seger; Jeffrey Mudloff (Verdigris Township Clerk); and Kristopher Matschullat (Antelope Township Treasurer). The motion to approve the surety bonds was made by Supervisor Don Breiner and seconded by Supervisor Treptow; the motion carried unanimously.
The board’s motion to allow the listed claims was made by Supervisor Breiner and seconded by Supervisor Mark Paxton; voting aye were Supervisors Neiman, Breiner, Paxton, Frahm, Treptow, Linquist and Tielke.
Why it matters: Approving claims and surety bonds is a routine but consequential fiscal control — it releases funds for county operations, roadwork and vendor payments and confirms bond coverage for certain township and county officers.
