Council awards $9,312 contract for snow guards on DPW building roof

Council authorized a $9,312 contract with R & J Seamless Metal Projects to install snow guards on the Department of Public Works motor pool building and office roof. City staff said the building was renovated in February 2024 with a standing‑seam metal roof; the project did not include snow guards, and staff reported that accumulated snow slides off the roof and creates hazards to equipment and personnel.
Staff asked the council to waive ordinary purchasing procedures because R & J installed the original roof and is familiar with the building details. The council voted to waive purchasing ordinance requirements under the cited local code provision and awarded the contract; a roll call recorded council members voting yes.
City staff said funds will be charged to the DPW building additions and improvements line item. No member of the public spoke on the item and council approved the motion without further debate.
