Council approves transfer of Smart credits to fund Richmond Lennox EMS transit program

The Richmond City Council voted to transfer $5,501 in municipal credits and $15,221 in community credits, totaling $20,722, to Richmond Lennox EMS to support its community transit program for fiscal year 2026. City staff presented Resolution No. 2025‑12 to formalize the transfer under the Smart municipal/community credit contract; the council adopted the resolution after a brief presentation. Jeff White, chief of Richmond Lennox EMS, told council the program provided 3,117 rides to Richmond residents last year and said that, compared with larger nearby Clinton Township, Richmond’s ridership represents significant usage relative to its population. “I think the community is getting a very good bang for its buck,” White said, noting the service’s role during recent community events, including shuttle service for the Good Old Days festival. Councilors expressed appreciation for the EMS service and noted its 50th anniversary; the motion to adopt the contract and transfer the credits passed by voice vote without recorded opposition.
