The Zionsville Planning Commission on Sept. 15 approved a development plan amendment to add four new 80‑foot light poles and fixtures to illuminate one additional soccer field at the Zionsville Youth Soccer Association complex at 5616 South 700 East.
Staff reported the amendment is an intensification of the existing recreational use and requires development plan review. The petitioner submitted a photometric study for the proposed fixture locations; staff said the study showed the new lighting would not exceed acceptable light levels on adjacent properties. The petitioner had previously secured a development standards variance to reduce wavelength and allow a higher color temperature than the code typically permits.
The commission voted 5–0 to approve the amendment based on the staff-concluded findings of fact. Staff indicated the association provided operational information to address Arlington Board concerns about hours and public events during the BZA/ARB process, and the association committed to operational limits included in the record.
No members of the public offered comments at the hearing. Staff will monitor final fixture selections and installation per the approved photometric plan.
