Commission defers Town Branch speed limit and hears recommendation to lower Wilson Road to 30 mph

The Dickson County Commission on Sept. 15 deferred action on a Town Branch Road speed-limit request to the Oct. 20 regular meeting and heard a separate recommendation to lower the posted limit on Wilson Road to 30 mph after a county traffic survey. Why it matters: Speed-limit changes affect enforcement, driver expectations and local traffic safety; commissioners sought input from law enforcement and deferred one item to allow additional work before a decision. Sheriff’s office staff or a county traffic engineer reported that the Wilson Road survey ran roughly seven days and recorded 2,357 vehicles, of which 951 were speeding, on a posted 45-mph segment. Based on that sample, the presenter recommended lowering the posted limit to 30 mph. Commissioners noted that Commissioner McElwain represents the district where at least one of the roads lies and was not present; the commission agreed to move the matter to the October meeting to allow district input. Town Branch Road was not ready for action at the Sept. 15 meeting and the commission agreed without objection to consider it at the Oct. 20 meeting. No ordinance changes were adopted on Sept. 15; the items were deferred for further review and action at the next regular session.
