City awards annual public-works supply contracts; road salt price rises modestly

Staff said bids were routine and often produce only a subset of responses; the most important annual item is road salt. The presenter said the accepted price represents a modest increase of $5 per ton compared with last year. He noted the city normally uses about 200 tons of salt per year but this past winter used roughly 800 tons because of unusually severe weather.
The accepted vendors named in the agenda were Carr Hill Company and Irvin Wood Recovery for Department of Community Service supplies. Commissioners approved the order by unanimous roll call. Staff also reported that black hardwood mulch and safety-surface prices are down compared with last year’s vendor pricing.
Staff said the awards are annual and procurement will continue to follow bid terms and budget constraints.
