ISD 191 revises student‑transportation language and removes rigid training deadlines

At the Sept. 16 ISD 191 School Board Policy Review Committee meeting, staff presented edits to Policy 707 (transportation of public school students) and Policy 709 (student transportation). The changes—drawn from MSBA model revisions—include rewording language about disabilities and cleaning up phrasing, and removing specific statutory deadlines for required kindergarten training while retaining the district’s obligation to provide training for K–12.
A committee member asked about language on page 709-3 that would allow the district to provide kindergarten students with training before the first day of school; staff clarified that the deadlines imposed by statute were cumbersome and did not account for local circumstances, so the proposal removes the specific deadlines but preserves the training requirement. The presenter said the district remains required to provide training and that the policy would be placed on first reading.
