The Lyons Township High School District 204 board on Tuesday approved the second reading of the stipend committee's recommendations, including an increase for instructors who lead ACT test-preparation programs.
Ed Piotrzky presented the item as a second reading and said there have been no changes since the Committee of the Whole review two weeks earlier. "As this is a second reading, we had this as the first reading at the Committee of the Whole meeting two weeks ago where we discussed this proposal and answered questions from the board. There have been no changes to this proposal at this time," Piotrzky said.
Why it matters: Board members and at least one public speaker emphasized the program supports students preparing for college admissions testing and that the stipend increase had not been adjusted in many years.
Public comment and support: A speaker during public participation, Andrew Johannes, said the LTA "strongly supports the increase for the ACT test prep instructors as recommended by the stipend committee." Board members voiced support during discussion and thanked staff and faculty organizers.
Board action: A motion to approve the second reading of the stipend committee recommendations was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. No amendments were offered.
